IT’S TIME TO ADVOCATE FOR STATE FUNDING FOR BIRTH CENTERS! Make your voice heard, Take Action Now!

Update May 13, 2024: Make your voice heard in support of Neighborhood Birth Center now, as State Senators in Massachusetts weigh which items to include in this year’s state budget

Proposed Senate Budget Amendment #424 filed by Senator Joan Lovely would provide $500,000 for Neighborhood Birth Center in Boston. Use your voice to tell lawmakers to support midwives, birth centers, and birthing people.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE HOUSE?

Unfortunately, the House did not adopt amendments to fund Neighborhood Birth Center and Seven Sisters Birth Center, but we are not done yet!

WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW THE SENATE?

The proposed Senate budget already has some funds set aside for Seven Sisters Midwifery and Birth Center as well as continuing the Maternal Health Grants program that Senator Liz Miranda established in 2023. We are now advocating for funds to be specifically allocated to Neighborhood Birth Center as they prepare to open their doors in 2025.

After the Senate finishes their budget amendment process next week, the Senate and House will negotiate a final compromise budget. We will keep you posted if further advocacy is needed!
